MORE ABOUT BADFIT SKILLS
  • For Nervous Beginners
Are you a beginner feeling a bit nervous about joining our badminton sessions? Don't worry – you're not alone, and we're here to support you every step of the way. Many of our loyal regulars started just like you, as complete beginners who were nervous about picking up a racket for the first time. However, they persevered, and today, they are confident and skilled players. We understand that starting something new can be intimidating, but we want you to know that our community is welcoming and inclusive. When you attend our sessions, we'll provide you with a racket to get started. You don't need to invest in expensive equipment right away; just bring yourself and your enthusiasm for the game. Our experienced players and coaches are here to assist you and share their knowledge. They were once beginners too and remember what it was like to take those first steps onto the court. You'll find that the badminton community is incredibly supportive, and you'll quickly build friendships with fellow players who are more than willing to offer guidance and encouragement. Just go for it!
  • We can provide you with a Racket
If you're eager to try out our badminton sessions but don't have a racket of your own, don't let that hold you back! We've got you covered. We understand that not everyone has their own equipment when they're just starting, and that's why we're more than happy to provide you with a racket. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to get into the game. When you arrive at our sessions, simply let us know that you need a racket, and we'll have one ready for you.
  • What happens at a Badfit session?
At a Badfit session, you can expect an exciting and well-organized badminton experience designed to cater to players of all levels. Here's what typically happens: Welcome and Warm-Up: The session kicks off with a warm welcome from our Badfit Captains or coaches. We encourage participants to engage in a brief off-court warm-up to prepare their bodies for action. Game Arrangement: Participants are grouped based on their skill levels, ensuring everyone plays with others of a similar standard. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, we've got the right game for you. Doubles Badminton: Most of our games are played as doubles, promoting teamwork and strategy. Singles games may also be available depending on the number of participants. Competitive Play: Badfit sessions are known for their competitive but fair play environment. Our priority is to ensure that every game is challenging and enjoyable. Guidance and Support: Our experienced Badfit Captains and coaches are always on hand to provide guidance, answer questions, and help make your experience exceptional. Social Interaction: Beyond the game, Badfit sessions provide an opportunity to socialize and make new friends who share your love for badminton.
  • What fitness levels is Badfit suitable for?
Joining Badfit doesn't require peak physical condition, but a basic fitness level is necessary to participate. Activities may include running, chasse movements, hitting, lunging, and possibly some skipping. However, you won't encounter push-ups, sit-ups, or planks here. Rest assured, you'll still get a comprehensive workout – with over 400 calories burned and 1,000's of steps taken per session. Please note, we advise against attending if you have major or recent injuries.
  • How will Badfit create a welcoming atmosphere?
You'll meet like-minded individuals working towards similar goals in a friendly, supportive environment. Our classes foster a strong team spirit, with participants ranging from complete beginners to advanced players, all eager to help each other improve their badminton skills.
  • What’s the benefit of playing Badminton regularly?
Badminton is a fantastic sport and skill to acquire. Those fortunate enough to learn it at a young age can enjoy its benefits well into their golden years. Badfit sessions are for players of any age, and regular badminton play boosts your confidence and allows you to enjoy the sport for years to come. As your skills progress, you can explore joining local badminton clubs, which are constantly seeking new players, or continue attending Badfit sessions to further enhance your game.
  • Is Badfit a good way to de-stress?
One of our favourite aspects of the sport is its ability to alleviate stress and anxiety. From the moment you arrive, your focus shifts to the game, providing a mental respite. We recognise the significant impact of exercise on our overall well-being and mental health and for many, badminton is a game-changer and an essential stress-reliever. If that sounds appealing then we always recommend you join us for an initial session to experience it for yourself.
  • Will Badfit help give me a competitive edge?
So, you’re looking to be the best you can at Badminton? Badfit can help! Each week, you'll challenge yourself individually and contribute to your team's success. Our sessions strike a balance between competitiveness and lighthearted fun (so even if you're not the competitive type, it's no big deal – just keep it a secret from the others).
  • Is Badfit certified by Badminton England?
Chris, our Head Coach, is a level 2 certified Badminton England coach and has over 20 years of competitive experience in the sport. He is fully DBS checked and insured to deliver Badfit sessions.
  • What level am I at?
If you’re considering joining us for Badfit (and we hope you are!) then you may be wondering what level you’re currently playing at. Every player is different, but below are some general guidelines to determine your own skill level: Beginner: These players enjoy casual games with family or friends but haven’t yet looked at technical or tactical training. They might play occasionally in the garden or at events, usually with players of a similar level. They’ve often caught the badminton bug which is why they move on to looking at organised or group sessions. Intermediate: This broad category is where most players sit, and often includes existing players who haven’t had coaching, so some may struggle with certain shots or have bad habits like wrong grips or footwork. Intermediate players have great potential for improving their skills and learning more about tactical awareness. Intermediate Plus: These players have had or are currently undergoing coaching. They can demonstrate most shots with correct grips and movements. Fitness levels may vary, but they typically play at high local league divisions or county level. Advanced: These players have been coached from the beginning and have mastered all shots and movements. They understand singles and doubles games and play regularly with high fitness levels. Advanced players often compete at national or county levels.
